Leaving the bedside
Sometimes we ask you to leave your baby's bedside, for example:
- when an X-ray is performed
- during a medical emergency
- surgery on the unit: some babies are too sick to move to an operating theatre and have their surgery on the unit - we will give you as much warning as possible and you are welcome to call and speak to your baby's nurse for an update.
During our ward rounds you are welcome to stay at your baby's bedside provided you have ear plugs or play music through headphones to ensure confidentiality for other patients.
If we are concerned about patient confidentiality we may ask you to step outside until we discuss your baby.
Security
Access to all areas is controlled by security lock. This is for the protection of your baby, and so that ward staff know who is coming into and out of the ward.
Please do not allow anyone to follow you into the unit, even if they appear to be a member of staff.
Staff who work on the unit have access passes and we have a Facial Recognition Service you can sign up to if you wish, allowing you easier access to see your baby.
