David Stubbs is a full-time NHS consultant at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre

His areas of interest lie in hip and knee replacement surgery and limb reconstruction surgery. This is a subspecialty of orthopaedic surgery which deals with deformity correction and bone regeneration following major trauma, bone loss or congenital problems.

He has a particular interest in problem fractures that have gone on to non-union (failure to unite) or malunion (healed in an unacceptable position). Many of these problems are secondary to infection and he works with a team running the only dedicated bone infection unit in the country.

David has a keen interest in teaching and research and has published papers relating to limb lengthening, non-union surgery and bone infection.

David is a regular faculty member on the Oxford FRCS (Orth) revision course.

Jamie Ferguson is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Limb Reconstruction. As is a member of the Bone Infection Unit in Oxford, he receives referrals from around the country and internationally.

He has published extensively on the management of bone infection, on the use of local antibiotics, and on the use of Ilizarov techniques to reconstruct bone.

He is interested in developing patient friendly surgery, with the intention of restoring function as quickly as possible. This includes a focus on single stage surgery and minimising frame time with novel techniques.

A large part of his practice is managing problems in individuals who have sustained injuries complicated by infection. He has extensive experience in managing fracture related infection and has authored research that has influenced the Fracture Related Infection Consensus Statement on diagnosis. He has also helped validate the diagnostic criteria for this condition.

Mr Ferguson trained in Leicester, gaining his MB ChB with honours and the BMA Gold medal. He undertook his basic surgical training in Manchester whilst undertaking a teaching post at Manchester University.

He undertook his orthopaedic training in Oxford. He has gained additional fellowship visiting the Unites States on a Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society Fellowship, as well as visiting the Ilizarov Institute in Kurgan, Russia. He was also awarded the Furlong Fellowship during which he spent one year in Blantyre, Malawi working in the Beit Cure International Hospital.

He has an interest in training and is a GMC recognised educational supervisor. He holds a Masters degree in Surgical Education and heads the Basic Science post graduate teaching for orthopaedics in Oxford.
