Thank You - Linen Team

On Level 0 - the basement - of the John Radcliffe Hospital's main building, you will find our Linen Room, home to our Linen Team.

This is the team responsible for the freshly-laundered bed sheets, the blankets and pyjamas essential for the daily bed and linen changes that keep our inpatients safe and clean.

They also run a staff uniform service for clinicians and nurses, which has recently been extended to include co-ordinating the provision of clean scrubs during the COVID-19 emergency.

The service, under Manager Michelle Redhead and Supervisor Denise Driver, is normally staffed by 12 full and part-time workers, and is part of the Estates and Facilities 'family' (their own description) which includes (among others) the teams responsible for our waste disposal and recycling, postal services and the maintenance of hospital grounds.

The Linen Team works very much behind the scenes, and its workers are not normally noticed by patients or the public, who see clean bed linen appearing on the wards as if by magic!

It has been extremely busy in the Linen Room - especially so during the early part of the COVID-19 outbreak. The phone seemed to be ringing non-stop, with both users and contract providers also emailing in with all their queries.

The service has certainly been stretched, and some staff members are working extended hours to ensure that patients and staff on the wards have all the items they need to run a clean and efficient service.

Thank you all for what you do!
